WHO?
I am Annu Esko from Finland. When I was eight years old, I won some money from the lottery. With that money, my parents bought a camera for me. Since that moment a camera has been my friend. I did my career as a dentist but kept photography always with me as a beloved hobby. Now, as I’m already free from work I’ve decided to dedicate myself to photography.
WHAT?
Lately, I’ve been excited about street photography. I love to travel and meet people from different countries and cultures to capture small, sometimes humorous moments in the streets. In my photos, there are always people or animals in focus. I love colours, the colours of life. In the streets, situations come and go very fast, but the charm of street photography is to be quick and capture the moment.
WHEN?
I need to be happy to be able to photograph. Seeing things differently, in a different light, gets me inspired. That’s why my creativity flowers when I have the opportunity to travel outside of Finland.
WHERE?
In Finland, there are strict rules about who and how people can be photographed, and there are also restrictions on publishing pictures. To avoid conflicts, I rarely take photos in Finland on the streets. Yet, I enjoy capturing my nearest people and beautiful Finnish nature.
WHY?
When I can get a person to feel something new or get him or her in a better mood and possibly look at my photographs again, I think I have succeeded as a photographer.
