WHO?
My name is Andreas Trogisch and I work as a photographer, graphic designer, programmer and teacher. I was fascinated by photography as a schoolboy, but I only started taking photographs in 1982 when I was 20 years old. My photographic understanding was significantly influenced during my studies by my teacher Manfred Paul.
WHAT?
I take pictures of everything that evokes a resonance in me, a reference to the unconscious that, with a little luck, can be transferred to a piece of paper. This unconscious can be triggered by anything: white paint on asphalt, light and shade in my room, or a strange object I find on the street.
WHERE?
I live in Berlin, where I’m always out and about with my camera, but I also take a lot of pictures in other places. Basically, I can take photos anywhere I encounter unusual situations.
WHEN?
I live in the past, present and future at the same time, and that’s how I work: my own archive and the great tradition of photography are always present to me, I’m constantly making new pictures, planning exhibitions and book projects.
WHY?
Photography is the ideal medium for people who are bad at drawing but still have a strong need for visual expression. But seriously: For me, photography has the potential to examine my visual environment for its secondary meanings and emotional echoes by transforming it into a flat image with the help of a technical device. For me, this transformation is pure magic, and for me all good pictures have this magical aspect.
