WHO?
I was born in Kamakura and currently live in Tokyo with my husband and children. I don’t have a strong background in photography, but I am a music lover and a record collector. I first became interested in photography through the cover art of vinyl records. I especially love Pete Turner’s photos.
I wanted to be a painter, so I went to art school, but my music career took off when I was a student, and singing became my job.
After getting married, I was busy with work and raising my children but starting to use Instagram led me to take street photos with my iPhone. I was slow to pick up a camera and I’m not good at complicated things, so I always use prime lenses.
WHAT?
I take pictures of everyday life around me in Tokyo. I am particularly fond of festivals and events, and have been photographing them as a project for several years now.
When I stare at the people passing through the streets, I feel the strength and complexity of human energy. I never get tired of watching people’s activities, and Tokyo has so much potential that it never ceases to interest me.
WHEN?
I always have my camera with me when I go out, and I often take pictures after work or while shopping. Outside of projects, I rarely go out to just take pictures.
WHERE?
I usually shoot in Tokyo, where I live, but I have been photographing my family and the people around me in Sanriku for many years after the earthquake.
WHY?
There is more than one motivation for taking pictures, but I think it is because I want to connect with people.
It’s important to me that people feel a connection with my photos when they view them.
