WHO?
I was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka and migrated to Europe at the age of 19. I’ve been living in Barcelona since 2001. I work as a logistics engineer for an automotive company.
I live in a small town near Barcelona, with my beloved partner in crime Reka and my two kids, Mireia and Xavier, to all of whom I’m ever so grateful for helping me so much with pursuing photography.
I was a late bloomer when it came to photography, I only started taking pictures at the end of 2016. I’m a self-taught photographer and am still learning day by day.
WHERE?
Honestly, anywhere I am at. I take my camera everywhere with me and have just got into the habit of taking it to work (thanks Rammy!). I even take it when we go to the movies with the kids.
Until recently I would take pictures of Barcelona and other European cities when I’m traveling. However, now I’m engaged in an ongoing project where I take pictures in transcontinental cities between Asia and Europe. I’ve visited Istanbul a couple of times this year and I have yet to visit 8 other destinations between Russia, Georgia and Egypt before I can finish the project.
WHEN?
Everyday. I have a day job but that doesn’t stop me from taking pictures almost every day. Most of the time, when I’m not able to go out to shoot, I take pictures of my family.
I try to go out at least for 8-10 hours every weekend for a walk and shoot near my home town. For my project work, I dedicate my holidays and long weekends when possible.
WHAT?
In the beginning, I would go out searching for witty situations or visual riddles or the perfect juxtaposition. Although I’d still take a picture of such situations today, I’m more keen on moments that attract me visually. It could be a scene with no people at all, as long as it attracts me visually.
WHY?
I had no idea what street photography was nor I was fascinated by the people on the street….One day, I came across pictures taken by my father-in-law in Hungary around the 1980s. They hit me right in the gut, I was fascinated by how an everyday situation can be turned into something special without the need of any studio. That’s when I started researching into the street photography genre and ever since I take pictures because I disconnect from my busy daily routine.
