WHO?
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina 51 years ago, from an early age, I was attracted to different cultures. A Spanish-English translator and teacher turned into a stewardess who enjoys traveling to remote places.
The first recollection of my love for photography is not precisely with a camera, but by observing the world and imagining a still image of a particular scene. Later on came the unique exciting feelings of acquiring a new camera, the expectation for the film to be developed, the happiness for a good photo or disappointment if one image could not be captured.
With the birth of my three daughters, I regained the passion for photography and when they grew older, I could have a bit more time to travel to new places and get back that staminic feeling again.
WHERE?
I can’t describe the powerful emotion of discovering a place that I had never visited before. The new canvas and the differences that appear before me, are usually a great starting point. I have many projects at the same time, some of them also at home where the place is familiar but the challenge higher. I have a special attraction to India, China, Iran, Turkey, but my projects will also take me to other countries dear to me.
WHEN?
Unless I am busy with family errands or work, the camera is an extension of my body, like an extra limb. I still feel very disappointed if I don’t have the camera with me when I encounter a scene that I considered worth photographing. When my children were young, I photographed them almost on a daily basis to capture them growing up. When they gave me more freedom, I started travelling with the own purpose of photographing. Now that they flew the nest, I am able to focus more on my long-term projects.
WHAT?
Black and white. Scenes that attract my attention with the aim to take them the way I saw them first. I don’t like staying in a place for too long to get the right picture. I prefer to capture what I see. I would say it’s a combination of candid-artistic-documentary approach. For my underwater series, it’s mostly a trial-and-error-candid-let’s see what happens sort of thing. My goal is to keep trying new things and to keep it personal.
WHY?
Because I have a passion for learning grammar and foreign languages and I consider photography another language to explore. Without using an alphabet, it’s a different way of communication that expresses itself but that leaves an open interpretation to the ones exposed to it.
Because it’s therapeutic. Because of all of the things mentioned above.
